The Community Security Service (CSS) is the leading organization for training American Jewish volunteers to protect their communities. At CSS, our mission is simple: Protect Jewish Life and Jewish Way of Life. Through our tiered programs and training, volunteers learn to identify threats and proactively safeguard their synagogues, institutions and events. We have trained over 4500 volunteers across denominations and regions in the United States on security awareness and operational security.



VACANCIES:



DIRECTOR OF PROGRAMS

Title: Director of Programs
Reports to: Deputy Director
Location: Flexible

CSS is offering an exciting opportunity to join the organization’s headquarters as ‘Director of Programs’ to help manage and scale existing programs and develop new and innovative initiatives for its national base of volunteers and clients.


GENERAL DUTIES:

  • Oversee the implementation and scaling of existing programs aimed at expanding our client base and strengthening engagement with volunteers.
  • Develop new programs that raise the level of situational awareness and operational security for the Jewish community in the United States.
  • Foster and strengthen partnerships with other organizations to help lead national efforts to raise the level of security for the Jewish community.
  • Lead and motivate volunteer leadership in different regions and ensure quality control of programs and coordination with relevant stakeholders.
  • Engage in regular public speaking and advocacy work on behalf of the organization.
  • Perform other duties as required.


QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience working in the Jewish and/or security space.
  • Excellent communication and program management skills.
  • Exceptional problem-solving skills with a persistence to see issues resolved.
  • A natural ability to build strong relationships with people of all backgrounds.
  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s preferred.

DIRECTOR OF TRAINING

Title: Director of Training
Reports to: Deputy Director
Location: Flexible

CSS is offering an exciting opportunity to join the organization’s headquarters as ‘Director of Training’ to help manage our growing volunteer trainer base and manage initiatives to strengthen the skills of our volunteers.


GENERAL DUTIES:

  • Oversee the CSS learning management system.
  • Lead and motivate CSS volunteer trainers across the country.
  • Ensure volunteers are operationally ready and qualified according to CSS criteria.
  • Create training materials as necessary, including training plans, PowerPoint decks with instructor notes, standard operating procedures, and associated collateral.
  • Conduct training sessions and seminars across the United States as needed.
  • Develop and implement a strategy to expand the CSS volunteer trainer base.
  • Engage in regular public speaking and advocacy work on behalf of the organization.
  • Perform other duties as required.


QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Extensive experience in the security space.
  • Experience as a high-level instructor in various topics.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Exceptional problem-solving skills with a persistence to see issues resolved.
  • A natural ability to build strong relationships with people of all backgrounds.
  • Bachelor’s degree required.

WESTERN STATES DIRECTOR

Title: Western States Director
Reports to: Deputy Director
Location: Flexible

CSS is offering an exciting opportunity to lead the organization’s operations in the Western States as ‘Western States Director’ and help implement new programs for existing and new clients and volunteers.


GENERAL DUTIES:

  • Build relationships with relevant Jewish organizations and other stakeholders.
  • Manage the regional growth and implementation of CSS programs and initiatives.
  • Serve as CSS liaison for law enforcement and government agencies.
  • Lead and motivate regional volunteer leadership in line with CSS policies and priorities.
  • Engage in regular public speaking and advocacy work on behalf of the organization.
  • Support CSS national headquarters in its overall mission.
  • Perform other duties as required.


QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience working in the Jewish and/or security space.
  • Excellent communication and program management skills.
  • Exceptional problem-solving skills with a persistence to see issues resolved.
  • A natural ability to build strong relationships with people of all backgrounds.

INTERNSHIP PROGRAM

Title: Security Intern
Location: Flexible

The CSS Internship Program provides professional development training for college and graduate school students seeking real-life experience working in the non-profit sector.


GENERAL DUTIES:

The Security Intern will work directly with National Staff on projects, including:

  • Drafting internal and external communication products.
  • Conducting research and analysis on hate crimes and security-related topics.
  • Assisting in the carrying out of various CSS programs and initiatives.
  • Conducting outreach to CSS partners, including law enforcement.
  • Assisting in the updating of databases and casefile management.
  • Providing support for special events and staff or volunteer meetings.


SKILLS:

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Detail oriented with exceptional organizational abilities.
  • Enjoy working in a fast-paced environment.
  • Commitment to the CSS mission.


EDUCATION:

  • Juniors and seniors, graduate students, and recent graduates are welcome to apply. Preferred fields of public policy, international security, nonprofit management, communications, political science, Jewish studies, or related fields.
